Melissa Muir

Melissa is an Accredited Family Law Specialist and has practiced almost exclusively in family law for over 10 years.

Melissa has vast experience in children’s matters, as well as complex high-end property disputes. She has worked in NSW and Victoria, as well as city, rural and regional areas, so has a sound understanding of the cross-border issues and concerns that affect people in these areas.

She understands that separation can be a very stressful and emotional time for most people, so is committed to obtaining an efficient outcome that is in her client’s best interests, so that they can focus on moving on with their lives and that of their children. Melissa is a strong supporter of methods of alternative dispute resolution including mediation. However, when litigation is necessary, she can provide clients with effective legal representation and guidance through the Court process.

Annabel Murray is an accredited family specialist in family law. Annabel has a keen focus on helping clients make informed decisions for their families during this stressful time.

Annabel’s experience can help clients understand how the law will apply to them, the range of options available for them and in working with other professionals to help you get the best outcome –  both short and long term.

Annabel’s experience enables her to work in a full range of matters from property and maintenance for married and de facto couples, including matters with more complex structures and overseas assets,  as well as parenting and child support.

Annabel will work with you and help you explore sensible settlement options including settling out of court, arbitration, mediation and collaborative law as well as acting in all litigated proceedings.

Annabel is very interested in parenting cases and brings her experience and training as an independent children’s lawyer into her child focused approach in helping parents consider what arrangements might be best for their child.

After completing his law degree in 2007 Michael was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia in 2009.

Michael completed his Articles with a renowned Western Australian law firm specialising in Family Law. He has appeared in both barrister and solicitor roles in the Family Court, Federal Magistrates Court (now the Federal Circuit Court), State Administrative Tribunal and Children’s Court.

Michael has a keen interest in negotiation and problem solving to find the direct route to finalisation of the matter. Michael has trial experience in small (3 days) and large (6 weeks) litigated matters. His practice comprises of matters ranging from large financial affairs of business, farming and trust structures as well as day to day financial affairs

Rose holds a Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. Rose joined the Australian Family Lawyers team in 2015 and was admitted to practice as a solicitor in early 2016.

Rose works alongside our senior lawyers in the areas of divorce and separation, property settlements and children’s matters. She is experienced in liaising with clients, researching complex family law issues, drafting court documents, preparing subpoenas and attending Court.

Rose previously gained experience in court processes working as a Legal Assistant for prominent taxation and employment law barristers. She has also volunteered as a Legal Intern at Environmental Justice Australia where she gained experience in legal research and preparing matters for VCAT.

Madeleine Magee

Madeleine joined Australian Family Lawyers in 2015 and was admitted to practice in May 2016. Madeleine works alongside our Senior Associate in property and children’s matters. Madeleine regularly attends client meetings, mediation, obtains detailed instructions from clients and drafts various Court documents as required.

Madeleine has a Masters of Laws (Juris Doctor) from Monash University and completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law. Madeleine also completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

Prior to joining Australian Family Lawyers, Madeleine worked as an Executive Assistant for two prominent Queen’s Counsels. Madeleine gained experience in litigation procedures and negotiations in the areas of taxation and insurance law. Madeleine also volunteered as a Legal Case File Manager at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre where she gained experience helping the Legal team prepare for Court.

Megan holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University. Megan completed her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice in 2016 and will be admitted to Practice in February 2017.

Megan has previously worked in Chambers at the Family Court of Australia assisting Justice Bennett, and has undertaken a clerkship at Dawson Cornwell Family Law Firm in London where she was exposed to a wide variety of family law matters including high conflict parenting matters, separation and divorce, complex financial matters and international proceedings including Hague Convention cases.

Megan has a detailed knowledge of Court processes which coupled with her strong research and communication skills assist her in providing practical advice for clients in an empathetic manner.

Megan is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria.
